ISLAMABAD, Apr 16 (Alliance News): Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Nurlan Yermekbayev, will visit Pakistan from April 17 to 18, 2025, at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar.
According to a press release from the Foreign Office, Yermekbayev will lead a delegation from the SCO Secretariat based in Beijing. During his two-day visit, he is scheduled to meet with the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Commerce, and the Foreign Secretary.
The SCO Secretary General will also visit the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI). Additionally, he will deliver a talk at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) and engage with business leaders, entrepreneurs, and media professionals.
The SCO is the world’s largest regional multilateral organization, consisting of ten member states. It represents 3.4 billion people — 42% of the global population — covers 36 million square kilometers, and holds a collective GDP of over $24.67 trillion, nearly 25% of the world economy.
This visit presents an opportunity for Pakistan to strengthen its historic ties with SCO member states and promote mutual socio-economic cooperation.
It will also allow Pakistan to share its vision on enhancing SCO’s mechanisms for regional peace, security, and economic integration.
