Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani Acquitted in TDAP Corruption Cases

KARACHI, Mar 8 (Alliance News): The Federal Anti-Corruption Court in Karachi on Friday acquitted Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani in three cases related to the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) corruption scandal.

Gilani, who appeared in person, was informed by the judge that a verdict had been reached in the cases against him. In response to a lighthearted exchange about potential imprisonment, Gilani stated that he had no fear of jail and was even willing to face a death sentence. His remarks prompted a smile from the presiding judge.

The court ruled that no charges against Gilani had been proven and granted him an honorable acquittal. It further noted that several individuals who had testified against him were now facing charges themselves.

In addition to Gilani, 40 other accused individuals were also acquitted in the TDAP corruption case, which involved allegations of fraudulent trade subsidies amounting to billions of rupees during the tenure of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) government.
