ISLAMABAD, March 3 (Alliance News): Former Prime Minister and Awam Pakistan Party (APP) convener Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has asserted that the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) must reform himself for the country’s progress, ruling out any US intervention in the party chief’s legal and political matters.
Speaking on a private television channel, Abbasi acknowledged PTI’s strong public support but cautioned that if the party continues with its past governance approach, it will not benefit Pakistan.
He urged the PTI leader to reflect on past mistakes and reform the party, stressing that governance failures have been amplified by successive governments.
Abbasi stated that efforts are being made to reach a consensus on opposition concerns, including the release of political prisoners, while adhering to constitutional principles.
He lamented Pakistan’s history of alternating political favoritism, saying that ending hypocrisy could also bring relief to the PTI founder.
Reflecting on past critical events, he credited Nawaz Sharif for Pakistan’s nuclear tests, stating that the country had no alternative after India’s actions.
On foreign relations, he stressed the need for Pakistan to maintain balanced ties with global powers, serving as a bridge between Russia and Europe.
He added that while the US has pressured Pakistan to scale down relations with China, Beijing has always encouraged Pakistan to maintain diverse international ties.
