Shehbaz Vows to Fast-Track Privatization of State Enterprises

ISLAMABAD, Feb 6 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed his commitment to accelerating the privatization of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) under the government’s Uraan Pakistan economic reform initiative.

Chairing a review meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office on Monday, he stressed that the government’s role is to facilitate business and investment rather than run businesses.

“I will not allow further losses in SOEs that are draining the resources of the Pakistani people. The privatization process must be expedited with full transparency,” he said, directing the hiring of reputable legal experts to remove any legal hurdles.

The meeting reviewed the task management system for privatization and was informed that the process is divided into three phases.

The first phase includes the privatization of ten institutions, the second thirteen, while the remaining will be completed in the third phase.

The Prime Minister insisted on strict adherence to the timeline, stating that no delays would be tolerated.

Federal Ministers Abdul Aleem Khan, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Rana Tanveer Hussain, Ahad Khan Cheema, and other senior officials attended the meeting.
