Six Terrorists Killed in Infiltration Attempt Along Pakistan-Afghanistan Border

ZHOB, Jan 23 (Alliance News): Security forces neutralized six terrorists attempting to infiltrate from Afghanistan into Pakistan’s Balochistan province, the military’s media wing stated on Thursday.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that the militants were intercepted on the night of January 22-23 in the Sambaza area of Zhob district. The forces effectively engaged and thwarted the infiltration attempt, recovering a significant cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives.

“Pakistan has consistently urged the interim Afghan government to ensure effective border management and deny the use of Afghan soil for terrorism against Pakistan,” the ISPR stated.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to securing Pakistan’s borders and eliminating terrorism, as cross-border militant activities continue to threaten the nation’s security.

Pakistan has experienced a surge in violence since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan in 2021, particularly in provinces like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan.

In 2024, Pakistan recorded its deadliest year for security forces in a decade, with 685 fatalities and 444 terror attacks, as per the CRSS Annual Security Report 2024 by the Centre for Security and Strategic Studies. Civilians and security personnel together suffered over 1,600 fatalities, marking a 73% increase in losses compared to 2023.

The country faced 1,166 incidents of terrorism and counter-terror operations last year, resulting in 2,546 fatalities and over 2,200 injuries. KP recorded the highest toll with 1,616 deaths, followed by Balochistan with 782 fatalities.

These grim statistics highlight the ongoing challenges Pakistan faces in addressing violence and securing its borders.
