ISLAMABAD, June 3 (Alliance News): A 17-year-old TikTok star, Sana Yousaf, was shot dead inside her home in Sector G-13/1, Islamabad, on Monday evening, sparking public outrage and renewed concerns over the safety of female social media influencers in Pakistan.
The incident occurred in the jurisdiction of the Sumbal Police Station. Sana, who had over 740,000 followers on TikTok, was at home with her aunt when the assailant entered.
According to the aunt, the suspect had a brief conversation with Sana, during which she was heard saying, “Go away from here. There are cameras all around. I will fetch you some water,” before being shot twice in the chest.
Her body was moved to PIMS Hospital for postmortem. An FIR under Section 302 PPC was registered by her mother, who stated she could identify the accused.
Preliminary investigations confirmed that the victim and the attacker knew each other.
Islamabad Police arrested the accused, Umar Hayat alias “Kaka” — a fellow TikToker aged around 22–23 — from Faisalabad within 20 hours using CCTV footage and mobile data tracking.
He confessed to the crime and claimed to be a friend of the victim. Police recovered the murder weapon and his clothing from the day of the crime.
CCTV footage shows Hayat walking away slowly after the shooting, texting on his phone before fleeing Islamabad via motorway.
He is being brought back to Islamabad for further investigation. The motive remains under probe.
This killing is part of a disturbing pattern of violence against female influencers. Similar cases have recently been reported in Khushab, Peshawar, Quetta, and Sialkot, where women were murdered over their social media activity.
Further developments are expected as the investigation and postmortem process continues.
