ISLAMABAD, July 12 (Alliance News): The World Bank (WB) and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) Implementation Support Mission for the Crisis Resilient Social Protection (CRISP) project have commended the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) for successfully meeting all its targets. The mission visited the BISP office on Friday and was led by Senior Social Protection Specialist Amjad Zafar Khan.
The mission included key participants such as Melis U. Guven (Lead Economist/Co-Task Team Leader) and Zaineb Majoka (Economist), among others.
In a wrap-up meeting with BISP Chairperson Senator Rubina Khalid and Secretary Amer Ali Ahmad, the mission presented its findings for the period of January to June 2024. Amjad Zafar Khan highlighted the successful achievement of targets related to various initiatives, including updates to the Social Registry, Biometric Payment Systems, Hybrid Social Protection Schemes, Health and Nutrition Improvements, and School Enrollment Incentives. He confirmed that all targets were met satisfactorily and are on track.
Chairperson Rubina Khalid expressed gratitude to the World Bank mission for their support and positive assessment of BISP’s performance. She emphasized the importance of raising awareness about new initiatives among beneficiaries and improving outreach at the Union Council level for better communication and mobilization.
Melis U. Guven also praised BISP’s Hybrid Social Protection Scheme, noting that BISP has become a role model for other developing countries implementing social protection programs.
