ISLAMABAD, Feb 17 (Alliance News): A high-level delegation of nine World Bank Group Executive Directors is arriving in Pakistan on Monday for the first time in nearly two decades to discuss economic development plans, investment opportunities, and strategies for implementing the recently approved $40 billion Country Partnership Framework (CPF) for the next decade.
The delegation, representing 88 member countries on the World Bank’s Board of Directors, will hold discussions with top government officials, including the Prime Minister, Finance Minister, Minister for Economic Affairs, Minister for Planning, and Minister for Energy.
The talks will focus on enhancing economic resilience, supporting private sector growth, and improving infrastructure.
The Executive Directors will visit Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Sindh, and Punjab while also engaging with representatives from Balochistan.
Their visit aims to assess development challenges and opportunities in alignment with the World Bank’s commitment to sustainable economic growth.
They will also meet business leaders, academics, and civil society representatives to gain insights into local economic needs.
The World Bank Group, comprising the International Development Association (IDA), the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), and the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), plays a crucial role in global economic policy.
The delegation’s visit is particularly significant as Pakistan’s CPF has drawn global attention, with other countries viewing it as a model for economic cooperation with the World Bank. The delegation will focus on formulating business plans and ensuring their effective implementation, reinforcing the World Bank’s long-term commitment to Pakistan’s economic transformation.
This historic visit is expected to strengthen financial and technical collaboration between Pakistan and the World Bank, paving the way for key development projects across the country.
