Pakistan, Australia to Enhance Cooperation in Border Management and Cricket Exchanges

Islamabad, Oct 03 (Alliance News): Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi met with Australian High Commissioner Neil Hawkins on Thursday to discuss bilateral relations, border management, counter-human trafficking, and cricket cooperation.

During the meeting at the Ministry of Interior, both parties agreed to enhance cooperation in key areas such as border management and counter-human trafficking.

The possibility of designating Islamabad Capital Territory and Australian Capital Territory as sister cities was also discussed.

Mohsin Naqvi highlighted the upcoming tour of Pakistan’s cricket team to Australia on October 30, expressing hope that the tour would bring exciting opportunities for fans of both nations.

He added that No Objection Certificates (NOCs) would be issued for Pakistani women cricketers to participate in Australia’s Women’s Big Bash League.

The Australian High Commissioner Neil Hawkins assured cooperation in training for young women’s cricket, as well as support for the blind cricket team. In a symbolic gesture, he presented the Interior Minister with a cricket bat signed by the Australian Cricket Team.

Minister Naqvi emphasized Pakistan’s efforts in curbing human trafficking and improving border management, stating that a full team is in place for these purposes.

He welcomed Australia’s offer to share advanced border management techniques and equipment. Both sides also agreed to hold a Joint Working Group meeting in Australia in December.

Furthermore, Naqvi reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to facilitating the relocation of Afghan refugees to Australia.
