ISLAMABAD, Sep 30 (Alliance News): The United States has joined hands with the Teachers’ Resource Center (TRC) to launch Pakistan’s first climate change curriculum aimed at educating students from grades 1 to 10 on climate science and environmental protection.
This groundbreaking program, developed by TRC under the Climate Change Awareness and Action for Nature, Diversity, Livelihoods, and Ecosystems (CANDLE) initiative, includes an interactive toolkit for teachers and user-friendly lesson plans.
These lessons cover critical topics such as the science of climate change, its impacts, and practical solutions for adapting to a rapidly changing environment.
Lisa Swenarski, Minister Counselor for Public Diplomacy at the US Embassy, emphasized the importance of climate education, stating, “By introducing climate education in schools, we’re empowering young minds to take meaningful action. These students will grow up with a deep understanding of their role in protecting the environment, and that’s where real change begins.”
The launch event was attended by senior federal and provincial education leaders and representatives from both the public and private sectors, who highlighted the essential role of education in tackling the climate crisis.
This new curriculum reflects the shared commitment of the US and Pakistan to build a sustainable and resilient future.
By integrating climate education into the school system, Pakistan is equipping its youth to become future environmental leaders, empowering the next generation to safeguard their communities and the planet.
