Elections may be held before appointment of new army chief: Khawaja Asif

ISLAMABAD, May 11 ( Alliance News): Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has said that elections may be held before the appointment of a new army chief.

In an Interview to foreign media, he said that there is also a possibility of forming a caretaker government before November. Khawaja Asif said that the army chief had said that he did not want to extend his tenure.

Replying to a question, he said that If Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed’s name is in the seniority list then it will be considered.

All the names that will be in this list will be considered. He said that Imran Khan wanted his own will on the issue of appointment of the next Army Chief so that his political interests and continuity of rule could be protected. The appointment of a new army chief led to a change in Imran Khan’s government.

The Defense Minister said that it was at the discretion of the Prime Minister to select one of the names sent by the Army. The appointment would be on merit. It is also possible that the caretaker government will leave before November and a new government will come.

He said that Imran Khan is hiding his failure behind the statements, he is simultaneously repeating anti-religion and anti-American statements. There is no possibility of defeat of PML-N in the battle of his statement.

The Establishment introduced Imran Khan as an alternative to politicians. This experiment was done and it harmed the country. All this was done by the army in 2018 and now that they are back, all unity is shattered.

Now you say take wickets again, it does not happen, the country is in a very bad situation at the moment. Khawaja Asif further said that the anti-establishment statement made by Imran Khan is shameful, the anti-army statement will not last long.

We will definitely defend the neutral role of the Establishment. We are in favor of taking action against Imran Khan and enforcing the law in such cases.
