FM Qureshi telephone Ukrainian FM, urges diplomacy to reduce tensions

ISLAMABAD, Feb 28 ( Alliance News): Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has telephoned Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Koliba and expressed grave concern over the current situation and called for diplomacy to reduce tensions.

According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office, Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Sunday telephoned Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Koliba and briefed him in detail about the current situation in Pakistan.

Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi reiterated Pakistan’s commitment that disputes should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy, while the dispute between Russia and Ukraine could be resolved through diplomacy.

He said that Prime Minister Imran Khan during his recent visit to Russia expressed regret over the current situation between Russia and Ukraine and said that Pakistan hoped that this dispute could be resolved.

The Foreign Minister emphasized that conflict is not in anyone’s interest and that developing countries are always the most affected economically in the event of a conflict.

He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment that disputes should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.

Foreign Minister Qureshi also raised the important issue of evacuation of Pakistani community and students in Ukraine and their safe return to Pakistan.

He praised the role of the Ukrainian authorities in facilitating the evacuation process as soon as possible and in crossing the border efficiently.

The two Foreign Ministers agreed to remain in touch in the future as well.
