Government, Media Joint Action Committee agree on legislation to end fake news

ISLAMABAD, April 23 (Alliance News): Federal Minister for Information Maryam Aurangzeb and the Media Joint Action Committee (JAC) have agreed to enact legislation to eliminate fake news.

In Islamabad, the delegation of Media Joint Action Committee met Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Maryam Aurangzeb where it was decided to legislate in consultation with the law of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to eliminate fake news.

The delegation of Media Joint Action Committee congratulated Maryam Aurangzeb on assuming the post of Information Minister.

It was decided in the meeting that a provision would be included in the PEMRA law for the elimination of fake news.

Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, no compromise would be made on protection of freedom of expression.

He said that the death of journalism is the death of politics and democracy, the product of democracy and constitution alone knows the importance of expression and its value.

He said that 4 years have passed since the doomsday on politics, journalism and people.

The Information Minister said that black laws like PICA Ordinance and PMDA were conspired to enslave 220 million people. Freedom of the media will be promoted in the light of views.

He said that like the economy of the country, the media was also destroyed financially in the last four years.

He said that journalists have become unemployed, many have lost their lives, their salaries have been halved and they are aware of the plight of their families and children.

Maryam Aurangzeb said that while trying to restore the economic ruin of the country, the former government had conspired to bankrupt the country economically.

Referring to the allegations leveled by former Prime Minister Imran Khan against the media, he said that he strongly condemned the serious allegations leveled against journalists in foreign conspiracies.

He said that Pakistan supports the demand of Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and would take the liars home.

Maryam Aurangzeb said that whoever speaks the truth, catches theft, Imran Sahib makes him a traitor.

He said that the media should play its role in curbing the riotous rhetoric based on lies. The sanctuary of politicians is free and impartial media. We will strengthen it.

On this occasion, the delegation of Media Joint Action Committee welcomed the move of the new government to repeal the laws of the previous government and said that you repealed the black rules of PMDA as soon as you came, for which we thank you. Pay

The delegation said that it was hoped that the democratic government would maintain the democratic spirit and strengthen the independence emanating from the constitution.
