ISLAMABAD, May 08 (Alliance News): President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday cautioned that the extremist policies and hostile actions of the Indian regime pose a serious threat to peace and stability across South Asia, warning of dangerous consequences if provocations continue.
He expressed these views during a meeting with Italy’s Minister of Interior Matteo Piantedosi, who called on him at Aiwan-e-Sadr along with a high-level delegation. The two sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, according to the President Secretariat Press Wing.
President Zardari briefed the visiting dignitary on India’s unprovoked military aggression, which targeted innocent civilians including women, children, and the elderly. He emphasized that such violations could destabilize the entire region and urged for an international response.
Interior Minister Senator Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Minister of State for Interior Senator Tallal Chaudhary, and senior officials also attended the meeting.
President Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s desire to expand its friendly and cooperative relations with Italy, particularly in economic and migration sectors.
Minister Piantedosi expressed condolences over the loss of innocent lives in the Indian attack and assured that he would convey Pakistan’s concerns to his government and the broader international community.
He acknowledged the strong cooperation between Pakistan and Italy in combating human trafficking and terrorism, noting that the 160,000-member Pakistani diaspora in Italy was well-integrated and contributing positively to Italian society.
During the visit, two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed to enhance cooperation in curbing illegal migration and promoting legal pathways for skilled Pakistani workers to seek employment in Italy.
President Zardari thanked the Italian minister for visiting Pakistan at a sensitive time and for supporting deeper bilateral engagement.
