Political stability most essential for sustainable economic growth: CEO Relacome Abbas Ali Mirza

ISLAMABAD, Feb 10 (Alliance News): Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Relacome Abbas Ali Mirza said that active participation of the business community, industrialists in legislation process is more imperative for balance trade policy.

He was of the view that due direct representation of the concerned community in the parliament or in the legislation process would help to address the issues related to businessmen and industrialists, terming it only way forward to establish healthy trade culture in the country and more essential for sustainable economic growth.

These views were expressed by the CEO Relacome Abbas Ali in an exclusive interview with Alliance News, said that the Industrialists were facing a myriad of challenges, ranging from legal barriers, tax, to lack of access to loans and financial know-how that prevent them from establishing a business.

It is a pity, Abbas Ali Mirza said that the traders community of the country going through a mental agony after the recently new fixed tax law introduced by the FBR for the collection of sales tax with monthly electricity bills.

He said that the short term solutions and quick fixes’ would not serve the purpose rather the government should focus on long term plans and policies  that would help to build up better economic and business culture here.

CEO, Abbas Ali Mirza responding the questions posed by the journalist said that it has evoked great concerns in the small traders and demanded of the government and the FBR should revise the minimum slab of sales tax in consultation with the elected body ICCI to save the small traders from unnecessary tax burden.

Replying to a question about country’s economic growth and role of ICCI, Abbas Ali Mirza, said keeping in view the situation and problems of the traders and business community, he feared that the national economy was heading towards a crisis-like situation.

The economic stability is directly linked with the country’s political stability which means both are the most essential to achieve the goal of sustainable economic growth rate, he remarked.

Replying to a question how the public and stakeholders can be involved in policy and legislation, Relacome CEO said that through comprehensive dialogue, consultation with concerned quarters and seeking experts’ opinions on the matter was only way forward for country’s economic grwoth.

CEO, Abbas Ali Mirza during Q & A with Senior Journalist Shabbir Hussain, said that in the dialogue process one thing is quite important that is an equal participation of the members of industry, chambers, business community which would yield a better result regarding the formation of the policy and would help in its implementation at larger level.

He remarked that the bureaucrats never know what the sufferings of a small businessman, what are the problem they are facing, only its true representation in the right forum would help to identify their problems and way forward to address them effectively.

Replying to another question regarding What if the implementation of the policy is done through the associations and public representations of the concerned stakeholders instead of the bureaucracy, CEO, Abbas Ali Mirza said that this would enhance the trust of the business community and would help to bridge the gap between government and trade associations.

Abbas Ali Mirza  said that it would be a more suitable option where all the stake holder or representatives of the business community directly taking the ownership of the government trade policy.

He said that it was need of the hour to consider a sizable numbers of business community, industrialists and concerned stake holders in legislation process, besides taking their inputs in policy formation seriously.

It is unfortunate, he said that in Pakistan there are few members of business community have been called to take part in the legislation process.

Such little participation of business community can not depicts the real pictures of their outstanding problems and would not help government to proposed a balance and comprehensive national trade policy.

Replying to a question regarding the power of policy making and legislation in Pakistan is concentrated in the civil and military bureaucracy and often when political parties come to power, they become instruments of the state instead of the people. To another query ۔ If the current system is replaced by a proportional representation of all stake holders in Parliament, he said that its important and vital step to ensure and introduce a balance trade policy in the country.
