British Council Cancels All PM Exams in Lahore Amid Rising Indo-Pak Tensions

LAHORE, May 8 (Alliance News) – The British Council has cancelled all Thursday afternoon (PM) sessions of GCE, IGCSE, IELTS, and University of London exams across all Lahore venues due to heightened security concerns amid escalating tensions between Pakistan and India.

In a statement, the British Council said the decision was made in consultation with the respective examination boards to safeguard the safety and security of all candidates. “This decision has been made to prioritise the safety & security of candidates,” the statement read, advising students and parents to follow only official British Council platforms for updates.

Candidates have been directed to stay in touch with their schools for further guidance. Private candidates are encouraged to contact the British Council’s Customer Services for support.

There was no confirmation on whether the exams would be rescheduled, but the Council assured that all future announcements would be communicated via official channels.

The cancellation follows unprovoked missile strikes by India on Pakistani territory in the early hours of Wednesday. The strikes came two weeks after India blamed Pakistan for a deadly attack in occupied Kashmir that left 26 dead. Pakistan denied the allegations and claimed to have shot down five Indian aircraft, 25 drones, and damaged multiple checkposts in response.

With tensions mounting, authorities have placed nationwide security on high alert, and several flights have been suspended intermittently.
