US Secretary of State visits South Africa to end Russian dominance in the region

ISLAMABAD, Aug 07 (Alliance News): US Secretary of State Anthony Blanken arrived in South Africa today to visit 3 countries in a bid to end growing Russian influence in the African region.

According to foreign Media, this visit of the US Secretary of State took place after the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s extensive visit to Africa at the end of last month.

South Africa, a developing country, has remained neutral on the Ukraine war and refused to join Western allies in condemning Russia, which it strongly opposed before the 1994 overthrow of white-minority rule.

According to a statement released from Pretoria, the capital of South Africa, US Secretary of State Anthony Blanken will meet with his counterpart Naledi Pandor on Monday (tomorrow) and announce the new US diplomatic strategy regarding Africa.

The statement said that the two counterparts will discuss the current and ongoing global geopolitical situation.

Last month, the State Department issued a geostrategic policy to African countries, from promoting a stable international system to shaping the technological and economic future to address the effects of climate change, food insecurity and global pandemics, the statement said.
