TEHRAN, April 11 (Alliance News): Iran has set key conditions ahead of planned peace talks with the United States in Islamabad, creating uncertainty just hours before the مذاکرات.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said that frozen Iranian assets must be released and a ceasefire must be fully implemented in Lebanon before negotiations can begin. In a statement on social media platform X, he warned that talks would not proceed unless these conditions are met.
There was no immediate response from the White House on Iran’s demands.
Earlier, US Vice President JD Vance, who is leading the American delegation, expressed optimism about the outcome of the talks but warned that any attempt to mislead the United States would not be tolerated.
Iran has long demanded access to billions of dollars in assets held in foreign banks, largely blocked due to US sanctions on its banking and energy sectors.
The latest developments come amid a fragile ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump following weeks of intense conflict. However, the truce remains uncertain due to continued tensions in the region.
While US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran have paused, Israeli military operations in Lebanon are ongoing. Israel has stated that its actions against Hezbollah in Lebanon are not part of the ceasefire agreement.
Reports indicate that Israeli strikes continued in southern Lebanon on Friday, resulting in casualties, including members of Lebanese security forces.
Another major concern is the continued disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy route. The ongoing situation has significantly affected oil supplies and international trade.
President Trump has also criticized Iran over the situation, accusing it of restricting oil flow through the strait and warning against imposing fees on ships.
The uncertainty surrounding these key issues has cast doubt on the success of the upcoming Islamabad talks, which are seen as a crucial step toward regional peace.
