ISLAMABAD, April 11 (Alliance News): Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam has said that Islamabad is currently hosting what he described as Pakistan’s “good offices” aimed at helping resolve what he termed an “illegal war” against Iran, as diplomatic activity continues amid rising regional tensions.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, the Iranian envoy praised Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue and suggested that Islamabad is acting as a mediator at a sensitive moment for regional stability. He described the situation involving Iran as an “illegal war,” reflecting Tehran’s official stance on recent developments.

The ambassador said the ongoing conflict is not only a violation against the Iranian nation but also a threat to broader peace and security in the Middle East. He warned that continued escalation could have consequences beyond the immediate region.
Referring to Pakistan’s diplomatic role, Moghadam said the success of mediation efforts would depend on whether major international stakeholders, including the United States, respond positively and respect the host country’s efforts.
He added that it remains to be seen whether Washington will “honour” Pakistan’s mediation initiative, without giving further details about the nature of the ongoing engagement in Islamabad.
Pakistan has long supported dialogue-based solutions to regional conflicts and has repeatedly called for de-escalation in Middle Eastern tensions. Officials in Islamabad have also emphasized the importance of peaceful negotiations under international frameworks.
While the Foreign Office has not issued a detailed statement on the ambassador’s remarks, Pakistan has in recent years hosted several high-level diplomatic interactions and backchannel efforts aimed at reducing tensions between rival states.
Analysts say Pakistan’s involvement reflects its broader foreign policy approach of maintaining balanced relations with global and regional powers while promoting stability in its neighbourhood. However, they note that the success of such efforts depends on cooperation from all key stakeholders.
The Iranian envoy’s comments come amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, where competing narratives continue to shape the situation on the ground. Observers say any meaningful breakthrough would require sustained diplomacy and mutual trust among all parties.
So far, there has been no official response from US authorities regarding the ambassador’s statement or the reported engagement in Islamabad.
Diplomatic channels are expected to remain active as efforts continue to explore possible pathways toward de-escalation in the coming days.
