Islamabad, Jan 24 (Alliance News): Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Saturday held an important meeting with US Ambassador to Pakistan, Natalie Baker, to discuss strengthening Pakistan–US relations and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
According to the Interior Ministry, both sides held detailed talks on curbing illegal immigration and improving the pre-immigration clearance system.
They also agreed to enhance cooperation in law enforcement, particularly in police training and capacity building.
A key outcome of the meeting was the decision to launch joint operations under comprehensive standard operating procedures (SOPs) against networks involved in fake and fraudulent visa activities.
Minister Naqvi said the government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against agent mafias and individuals facilitating illegal migration, and welcomed US support in this effort.
“I am personally monitoring the action against fake visa networks,” the minister said, adding that Pakistan’s passport system has been made more secure through modern technology.
He described illegal immigration as a serious challenge and said a strong crackdown is underway against those attempting to reach the United States through illegal means.
Naqvi noted that effective government measures have led to a 47 percent reduction in illegal immigration. He stressed that no leniency would be shown to those involved in preparing or facilitating fake documents.
US Ambassador Natalie Baker reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to its relationship with Pakistan. She said the United States places special importance on ties with Pakistan and that closer cooperation would further strengthen bilateral relations.
