ISLAMABAD, Jun 25 (Alliance News): Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has launched a dedicated “Alumni Corner” to foster long-term engagement with its former students and acknowledge their academic and professional achievements.
The facility was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood in a ceremony attended by senior faculty and principal university officials.
In his remarks, Dr. Mahmood highlighted that over five million students have graduated from AIOU to date, with around 100,000 added to the alumni base annually.
He emphasized the significant roles these graduates are playing not only across Pakistan but in key institutions worldwide.
The Vice Chancellor noted that the new Alumni Corner aims to recognize the vital contributions of alumni and build a sustainable, dynamic network that supports career development, community engagement, and the university’s international reputation.
He encouraged former students to actively participate in knowledge-sharing, fundraising, student mentorship, and efforts to elevate AIOU’s public image.
During the event, Dr. Mahmood also signed the Alumni Visitors’ Book, commemorating the initiative. Director Student Affairs Syed Ghulam Kazim Ali presented the university’s vision for expanding and formalizing alumni relations, including future plans for outreach and digital engagement.
Other speakers included Dr. Malik Tauqir Ahmad Khan, Director General of Regional Services; Prof. Dr. Moeenuddin Hashmi, Dean of the Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies; and Prof. Dr. Syed Aamir Shah, Director of Coordination and Administration.
They praised the initiative as a forward-looking step to institutionalize alumni engagement and promote mutual growth.
The Vice Chancellor concluded the ceremony by congratulating the Student Affairs team and instructed the preparation of comprehensive working papers to guide the development of the Alumni Corner in future phases.
