Govt Removes License Requirement for Small Solar Consumers

Islamabad, April 29 (Alliance News): In a major relief for renewable energy users, the government has abolished the licensing requirement for solar consumers with systems up to 25 kilowatts under net metering regulations.

The decision follows special instructions from Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Owais Ahmed Khan Leghari, after which the Power Division formally approached the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to ease regulatory requirements for small-scale solar users.

Acting on the request, NEPRA approved the removal of the license requirement for consumers generating up to 25 kW of solar power under net metering.

The authority has also issued an official notification confirming the policy change following correspondence from the Power Division.

The move is expected to encourage the adoption of solar energy across households and small businesses by simplifying procedures and reducing regulatory hurdles.

It is also seen as a step towards promoting clean energy and reducing reliance on conventional power sources in the country.
