Light Rain, Cloudy Skies Bring Relief to Karachi and Twin Cities

KARACHI, RAWALPINDI, June 23 (Alliance News): The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted continued drizzle and light rain in Karachi, along with cloudy skies and humid weather conditions across the metropolis.

According to the Met Office, Karachi recorded a minimum temperature of 29.4°C on Monday, with maximum temperatures expected to rise between 33°C and 35°C. Humidity remains high at 79%, supported by a moderate sea breeze blowing at 15 kilometres per hour.

The forecast follows Karachi’s first notable downpour on Friday, which brought a much-needed break from the scorching heat and reduced the “feels-like” temperature significantly. Light rain and drizzle have since been reported intermittently across various city areas, including Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Bahadurabad, Sharea Faisal, Saddar, and Malir.

Meanwhile, Islamabad and Rawalpindi have also experienced heavy thunderstorms, lightning, and rainfall over the weekend. The PMD recorded 27mm rainfall in Saidpur, 15mm in Shamsabad, 12mm at Kacheri, and 4mm in Pirwadhai.

In response to the rain, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) in Rawalpindi declared a state of high alert. Managing Director WASA said that staff and heavy machinery had been deployed in low-lying areas to manage water accumulation and prevent flooding.

The recent rains are a welcome respite for residents in both Karachi and the twin cities, who had been facing persistent hot and humid conditions over the past weeks.
