India’s Tour of Bangladesh Postponed Amid Political Tensions

NEW DELHI, July 4 (Alliance News): The Indian cricket team’s scheduled tour of Bangladesh, featuring three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) from August 17 to 31, has reportedly been postponed indefinitely due to escalating political tensions between the two nations, according to Indian media reports on Friday.

The decision follows a reported directive from the Indian government to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), advising against the tour in the current geopolitical climate. However, neither the BCCI nor the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially confirmed the postponement.

The BCB had already initiated preparations for the tour, including steps toward the sale of media rights. However, broadcasters have now been informed to pause their arrangements, as the series may not proceed as planned.

A senior BCB official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Indian media, “The date for the India series hasn’t been fixed yet. They (the BCCI) said it’s difficult for them to come in August. This is part of the Future Tours Programme (FTP).”

On the Indian side, BCCI officials remained similarly guarded. One insider indicated that a final decision regarding the series is expected within a week, with a joint statement from both boards likely to be issued soon.

The postponement casts uncertainty over Bangladesh’s packed international home schedule, which includes 49 matches—eight Tests, 20 ODIs, and 21 T20Is—before May 2027, including key series against Ireland, Pakistan, West Indies, and England.

The latest development underscores how regional political shifts continue to impact international sporting engagements in South Asia.
