Alue Dohong Appointed FAO Regional Head for Asia-Pacific

ISLAMABAD, June 3 (Alliance News): The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has appointed Alue Dohong as Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific, effective May 15, 2025.

The appointment was made by FAO Director-General QU Dongyu, according to an official press release. Alue Dohong, a national of Indonesia, brings over 30 years of experience in environmental management and sustainable development to the role.

Prior to this appointment, Dohong served as Senior Advisor to Indonesia’s Minister for Environment and as Head of the Environment Control Agency since December 2024. He previously held the position of Vice-Minister at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry from 2019 to 2024.

Dohong’s career began in 1994 as a lecturer at the University of Palangka Raya, where he specialized in peatland restoration and sustainable resource management. His past roles include serving as Kalimantan Site Coordinator for the Wetlands International-Indonesia Programme and as an expert at the Central Kalimantan REDD+ Liaison Office.

From 2016 to 2019, he was Deputy Head for Construction, Operation, and Maintenance at the Peatland Restoration Agency (BRG) of Indonesia. He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Management from the University of Queensland, a Master’s from the University of Nottingham, and a Bachelor’s in Economic Development from Palangka Raya University.

FAO says his appointment will strengthen regional cooperation and support sustainable agricultural practices across Asia and the Pacific.
