Washington, April 29 (Alliance News): Donald Trump has directed his advisers to prepare for a long-term naval blockade against Iran, aiming to intensify pressure on its economy and restrict oil exports, according to foreign media reports.
The US president said that maintaining a sustained blockade would be less risky than launching direct military strikes or withdrawing from the conflict.
He emphasized that halting shipping activities to and from Iranian ports could significantly weaken Tehran’s economic capacity.
Trump also claimed that King Charles III shares the view that Iran must not acquire nuclear weapons. Highlighting the historical ties between the United States and the United Kingdom, he said their relationship remains strong despite political differences.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for United States Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that the blockade has already impacted Iran’s maritime trade.
US forces are reportedly restricting shipping routes, leading to a buildup of vessels at Chabahar Port, where the number of ships has surged from around five to more than twenty.
On the diplomatic front, Iran has strongly condemned the US actions in a letter addressed to United Nations Secretary-General, describing the interception of Iranian vessels and seizure of assets as acts of piracy.
The Iranian delegate urged the UN to intervene and ensure the immediate release of detained ships, warning that the situation could escalate tensions and pose serious risks to regional and global security.
Earlier, Trump stated on his social media platform Truth Social that Iran is facing internal decline and has requested the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to stabilize its situation. He added that Iran still retains the ability to recover from its current challenges.
There has been no official response from Iranian authorities to these claims so far, and the international community has yet to issue a unified position on the escalating developments.
