LONDON, May 27 (Alliance News): Pakistan has announced the launch of a biannual Interprovincial Ministerial meeting on education, aimed at fostering national policy alignment and cross-provincial collaboration.
The decision was made at the 21st Education World Forum (EWF) in London, where a high-level Pakistani delegation participated with support from the British Council and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
Led by Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training Wajiha Qamar, the delegation included education ministers and secretaries from Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Together, they pledged to transform policy discussions into actionable reforms.
Through the new platform, provincial ministers aim to enhance collaboration on teacher training, digital education, curriculum reform, and youth skills development.
Strategic partnerships with UK institutions and possible cooperation with the Scottish Government are also being explored, particularly in teacher training and capacity building.
British High Commissioner Jane Marriott praised the collaboration, stating: “Education is vital for unlocking young people’s potential. I’m proud of the UK-Pakistan partnership’s role in improving education for girls and marginalised children.
With new research and technical support, we hope to strengthen Pakistan’s education systems at a national level.”
British Council Pakistan’s Country Director James Hampson added, “Pakistan’s engagement at EWF reflects its commitment to tackling challenges head-on. We are proud to support their journey toward meaningful educational transformation.”
Minister Wajiha Qamar emphasized the broader vision, saying: “True progress demands more than classrooms — it calls for skills, critical thinking, and digital readiness. Our mission is to shape learners into capable leaders for Pakistan’s tomorrow.”
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Education Minister Faisal Khan Tarakai also highlighted education’s role in addressing climate and equity goals: “From global frameworks to KP’s Climate Ready Schools, we are translating policy into action — preparing every child to thrive in a future-ready world.”
