ISLAMABAD, June 23 (Alliance News): Former Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, has issued a stark warning over the international community’s silence on Israeli aggression against Iran, stressing that failure to speak out could pave the way for greater conflict.
Speaking during a National Assembly session on Monday, Bilawal invoked the famous words of Pastor Martin Niemöller’s poem First They Came to caution against indifference to growing violence in the Middle East.
“First, they came for the Palestinians, but the world did not speak out because they weren’t Palestinian. Then they came for the Lebanese, but we did not speak out because we were not Lebanese. And then they came for the Yemenis, but we did not speak out because we’re not from Yemen,” Bilawal said.
“Now, they’ve come for Iran. If we do not speak out, there will be no one left when they come for us,” he warned, calling Israel’s actions part of a broader pattern of unchecked militarism.
He condemned what he described as the Israeli regime’s “genocidal war” and called for an immediate end to aggression across the region. “The Israeli regime’s aggression across the region must be stopped,” he said, warning that the widening war could “drag everyone towards World War III.”
Bilawal’s remarks follow Israel’s recent strikes on Iranian territory and the United States’ controversial attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities—escalating already high regional tensions.
The former foreign minister called on Pakistan and the international community to take a firm stand in support of peace, dialogue, and regional stability.
