COAS Asim Munir Meets Iranian Military Leadership to Strengthen Defence Ties

RAWALPINDI, May 27 (Alliance News): Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir visited the General Staff Headquarters in Tehran, where he held a key meeting with Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, to discuss evolving regional security and boost bilateral defence cooperation.

According to a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the two military leaders focused on strengthening military-to-military relations, enhancing border security mechanisms, and transforming the Pakistan-Iran border regions into zones of trade and economic connectivity.

COAS Asim Munir received a warm welcome in Tehran, including a ceremonial guard of honour presented by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Iranian Armed Forces.

Earlier, COAS Munir, along with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, also met Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Syed Ali Hosseini Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian, furthering diplomatic engagement between the two countries.

The visit to Iran is part of a broader official tour that includes Türkiye and Azerbaijan, where the Pakistani leadership aims to deepen ties with friendly nations in defence, trade, and regional cooperation.
