ISLAMABAD, Jun 19 (Alliance News): Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Thursday criticized the federal budget during the National Assembly session, stating that it lacks public confidence and fails to offer real hope to the people.
Speaking during the ongoing budget debate, the veteran politician said, “Since 1988, I have heard every government claim its budget will strengthen the economy and serve the public. But over the past two decades, we have only seen disappointment. Have we moved forward or backward?”
He said Pakistan’s economic performance has often missed targets, noting last year’s failure to even reach half of the projected growth rate. “There were no major reforms, and nothing to inspire confidence. How can we support a budget that the public already sees as disappointing?” he questioned.
Referring to the country’s broader challenges, Fazlur Rehman said peace and stability are essential for economic growth. “Since 9/11, violence and insecurity have plagued us. Crimes have been normalized and public safety is compromised,” he lamented.
He acknowledged the sacrifices of the armed forces, saying, “Despite India’s superiority in size and strength, the Pakistani military stood firm. This was not just a war with India, but a war with Modi’s ideology. Our nation stood united, even minorities.”
The JUI-F chief also condemned Israeli aggression in the Middle East. “Around 60,000 Palestinians have been martyred, and Israel continues to attack Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and now Iran. The silence of world powers is shameful.”
Calling on Pakistan to lead the Muslim world, he said, “We are a strong country with a strong army. We must support our brothers in Gaza and Palestine.”
Concluding his speech, Fazlur Rehman called for a complete transformation of Pakistan’s political culture. “Traditional politics has failed. What we need now is a revolution—justice for the people is the only way to build a better economy and a better nation.”
