RAWALPINDI, May 29 (Alliance News): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan has ruled out any form of personal compromise or “give-and-take” deal, stating that while he is open to talks, such discussions must serve only the national interest.
This was conveyed by Senator Ali Zafar following his recent meeting with the jailed PTI leader at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. Khan, who has been incarcerated since August 2023, faces multiple cases including corruption and terrorism, following his ouster through a no-confidence vote in April 2022.
Speaking to reporters, Zafar relayed Khan’s unwavering stance. “Imran Khan has made it clear that he has never asked for personal relief. If he had intended to, he would have done so long ago. His focus is on the country’s unity and justice.”
Zafar’s statement came in response to remarks made by Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, who recently urged the country’s “unseen forces” to engage in a dialogue through a give-and-take mechanism. Her appeal was tentatively welcomed by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, who described it as a “fragile effort” but hinted it could be explored further.
Imran Khan, according to Zafar, reaffirmed that his doors remain open for talks with the establishment, but only in the spirit of national reconciliation. “He said no one should be allowed to play on both sides of the wicket, and he will no longer tolerate the silence of those holding power,” Zafar added.
The PTI founder also demanded justice and called for the speedy resolution of all cases against him. “I only want justice,” Khan was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, Khan has endorsed a protest movement launched by PTI and directed the party leadership to prepare fully for the upcoming campaign. A comprehensive strategy is expected to be unveiled within the next five to six days.
Khan’s firm rejection of any personal concession while signalling openness to national-level dialogue is being seen as a move to maintain both moral ground and political relevance amidst ongoing legal and political battles.
