ISLAMABAD, June 22 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday held a telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and strongly condemned the recent US military strikes, following Israel’s sustained aggression against Iran over the past eight days.
During the call, the prime minister expressed Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the people and government of Iran, conveyed heartfelt condolences over the loss of innocent lives, and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured, according to a statement by the PM Office Media Wing.
The prime minister voiced grave concern that the US strikes had hit facilities safeguarded by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), terming them a violation of both international law and the IAEA Statute.
He reaffirmed Iran’s inherent right to self-defense as provided under Article 51 of the UN Charter and stressed that the path forward lies in an immediate return to dialogue and diplomacy.
Calling for collective efforts to de-escalate the volatile situation, Prime Minister Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan’s readiness to play a constructive and bridging role in defusing tensions.
In response, President Pezeshkian expressed deep appreciation for Pakistan’s principled stance and solidarity. He extended thanks to the prime minister, the government and people of Pakistan — including the military leadership — for supporting Iran during these testing times.
Both leaders agreed on the critical need for unity among the Muslim Ummah in the face of regional instability and pledged to remain in close contact in the coming days.
