ISLAMABAD, Jun 19 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday instructed authorities to finalize the country’s industrial policy without delay, emphasizing the need for inclusive consultation with all relevant stakeholders to address the challenges faced by the sector and enhance national production.
Chairing a high-level meeting on industrial development, the Prime Minister described the industrial sector as the backbone of Pakistan’s exports and a key driver of economic growth. He stressed that fostering sustainable industrial growth was critical to achieving long-term economic stability.
“Our focus is to equip local industries with modern technology and a skilled workforce to meet international standards,” he said. He added that the government is prioritizing investment promotion through tariff rationalization, a move aimed at improving the ease of doing business.
PM Shehbaz noted that past uncertainties in industrial policy had stunted the sector’s growth. “We now aim to introduce a clear, stable, and forward-looking industrial policy that can unlock the true potential of our national manufacturing capabilities,” he said.
The meeting included discussions on recommendations for boosting the manufacturing sector. Officials briefed the Prime Minister on plans to revive the country’s industrial base through an effective and targeted policy framework.
Key attendees included Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Special Assistant to PM Haroon Akhtar, and senior officials from relevant departments.
