ISLAMABAD, Jun 20 (Alliance News): The fifth round of the Pakistan-European Union Dialogue on Non-Proliferation and Disarmament was held in Islamabad, where both sides held comprehensive discussions on regional and global peace, security, and strategic stability.
According to a joint press release issued simultaneously by Pakistan and the European Union, the dialogue focused on disarmament and non-proliferation, specifically in the context of the UN General Assembly’s First Committee, the Conference on Disarmament, and international conventions such as the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) and the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC).
The two sides also reviewed recent developments in global export controls and assessed the impact of emerging technologies on global security and arms control.
The dialogue forms a key part of the broader strategic engagement between the EU and Pakistan, serving as an important platform for constructive discussions on arms control, disarmament, and non-proliferation.
It was mutually agreed that the sixth round of the dialogue will be held in Brussels in 2026.
The Pakistani delegation was led by Ambassador Tahir Andrabi, Additional Foreign Secretary for Arms Control, Disarmament, and International Security (ACDIS), while the European side was headed by Ambassador Stephan Klement, EU Special Envoy for Non-Proliferation and Disarmament.
