DUSHANBE, May 29 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif arrived in the Tajik capital on Thursday for a two-day official visit focused on enhancing bilateral relations and addressing the urgent issue of climate change at an international conference on glacier preservation.
Upon arrival at Dushanbe Airport, the prime minister received a warm welcome from Tajik Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda, Deputy Foreign Minister Sharifzoda Farrukh Homiddin, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Tajikistan Muhammad Saeed Sarwar, and Tajikistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Yusuf Sharifzoda.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar and Special Assistant Syed Tariq Fatemi are accompanying the prime minister on this important visit.
During his stay, Prime Minister Sharif will hold a bilateral meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon.
The leaders are expected to explore avenues for deeper cooperation in trade, energy, and connectivity, while also exchanging views on regional matters.
The prime minister is also likely to express Pakistan’s gratitude for Tajikistan’s consistent support, particularly in the context of Pakistan-India tensions.
A major feature of the visit is the prime minister’s participation in the high-level International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation.
At the event, Prime Minister Sharif will highlight the devastating impacts of climate change on Pakistan, especially following the 2022 floods, and emphasize Pakistan’s commitment to environmental protection and the preservation of its vital glacier systems.
