ISLAMABAD, May 21 (Alliance News): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday reiterated that facilitating low-cost housing projects remains a top priority of his government to ensure shelter for the common man and stimulate economic growth.
Chairing a review meeting of the Task Force on Housing Sector Development, the prime minister emphasized that affordable housing would not only provide access to residential units for the low-income segment but also generate employment and boost the national economy.
He directed the task force, in coordination with the Ministry of Finance and the banking sector, to prepare and submit concrete recommendations for financing low-cost housing projects. These proposals, he said, should be included in the upcoming federal budget.
The prime minister stressed that sustainable economic growth is closely tied to the development of the construction sector, which can drive allied industries and create significant job opportunities.
The meeting was attended by Ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Ahad Khan Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Ali Pervaiz Malik, FBR Chairman, and senior officials, according to the PM Office Media Wing.
The task force informed the prime minister that significant progress had been made on legislative and administrative fronts. The Condominium Act 2025 and amendments to the Foreclosure Law are in their final stages, and their approval will make it easier for individuals to obtain loans for home construction and ownership under low-cost housing schemes.
The meeting was also briefed on the overall progress of various construction initiatives, particularly those targeting low-income housing.
