ISLAMABAD, May 29 (Alliance News): Parliamentary Secretary for Human Rights, Saba Sadiq, has said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visits to Iran, Azerbaijan, and Turkey mark a significant milestone in Pakistan’s foreign policy, bringing promising opportunities for economic growth, regional cooperation, and national development.

In a detailed statement issued on Tuesday, she emphasized that these diplomatic engagements are not just symbolic but carry substantial strategic and economic value.

“These visits are a powerful reflection of proactive diplomacy focused on long-term national benefits,” she remarked.

Highlighting the Iran visit, she said Pakistan and Iran signed multiple agreements to enhance cooperation in trade, border development, security, and particularly in energy.

The discussions on reviving the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline were particularly important, she said, as the project could help alleviate Pakistan’s chronic energy shortages.

The expansion of border markets was also welcomed as a means to enhance local trade and uplift underdeveloped areas along the shared border.

On the Azerbaijan visit, Saba Sadiq pointed out that the $2 billion investment commitment marks a major breakthrough. The agreement spans key sectors including energy, infrastructure, tourism, and education.

She also appreciated Azerbaijan’s decision to lift import duties on Pakistani Basmati rice, calling it a gesture of economic solidarity that will boost Pakistan’s agricultural exports.

She said the cooperation agreement on the Machike–Thallian–Tarujabba White Oil Pipeline Project and progress on LNG trade reforms would play a crucial role in ensuring Pakistan’s long-term energy security.

Defense collaboration and technology transfer between the two countries are also expected to enhance Pakistan’s strategic capabilities and foster innovation.

Saba Sadiq further highlighted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to Turkey, where discussions were held on expanding bilateral trade, defense cooperation, and investment in infrastructure and transport.

She said Pakistan and Turkey agreed to deepen their strategic partnership through enhanced cooperation in high-value sectors such as construction, renewable energy, and technology.

The visit also saw progress on plans for the Istanbul-Tehran-Islamabad freight train project, which could greatly boost regional connectivity and trade.

“The visit to Turkey reflects Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening ties with a trusted ally,” she noted. “Enhanced cooperation with Turkey is crucial for advancing shared economic and regional stability goals.”

“These visits reflect Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision of proactive diplomacy aimed at securing sustainable development and regional peace,” she said.

“The agreements and understandings reached during these visits lay the groundwork for mutual prosperity and a brighter future for the people of Pakistan.”

She concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to translating diplomatic engagements into practical gains. “With consistent follow-up and implementation, these initiatives can transform Pakistan’s economy and international standing,” she added.
