ISLAMABAD, June 25 (Alliance News): The Islamabad High Court has reserved its verdict on the petition challenging the appointment of Mohsin Naqvi as Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The decision was reserved on Tuesday by Acting Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar after completing the hearing of arguments from both sides. A short order is expected to be announced later today.
The petitioner’s counsel argued that Mohsin Naqvi’s appointment was made by the then-caretaker prime minister, which he contended was beyond the constitutional and legal powers vested in a caretaker setup.
He urged the court to declare the appointment null and void, stating that such a decision should only have been made by an elected government with a full mandate.
In response, the PCB’s legal counsel defended the appointment, asserting that all legal formalities were duly observed.
He maintained that Mohsin Naqvi’s appointment was made in accordance with the Pakistan Cricket Board’s constitution and other governing laws, and there was no objection raised by the incumbent prime minister, further affirming the legitimacy of the move.
The court’s decision on this high-profile matter could have significant implications for the administration of cricket in Pakistan, particularly at a time when the PCB is undergoing a period of structural reform and strategic redirection under its current leadership.
