Pakistan, ADB Pledge Stronger Climate Partnership, Focus on Youth and Green Economy

ISLAMABAD, May 26 (Alliance News): The federal government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have agreed to enhance cooperation on climate resilience and environmental sustainability following high-level talks held in Islamabad on Monday.

Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, and ADB Director General Bruno Carrasco led the discussions, emphasizing a unified strategy to address Pakistan’s growing climate challenges.

The dialogue focused on urgent climate action, particularly by empowering youth through climate incubation programs, mentorship, and funding initiatives. The goal is to support young innovators in developing scalable green solutions that can boost Pakistan’s position in the global green economy.

Both sides also discussed increasing climate financing and mobilizing investments for sustainable development projects. Exploring carbon credit markets was a key topic, with agreements to work on monetizing emissions reductions and improving environmental performance.

Minister Malik underlined the need to shift from policy-making to action. “We must ensure that our strategies translate into real-world impact,” he stated, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to climate targets.

The ADB delegation echoed its support for Pakistan’s climate vision, offering policy-based loans, capacity-building programs, and technical cooperation to strengthen institutional climate response.

Technical teams from both parties will now work on finalizing a detailed partnership framework, with more engagements planned in the near future.
