KARACHI, Jul 7 (Alliance News): Sindh Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani on Monday announced that the committee probing the recent collapse of a five-storey building in Lyari has been assigned an expanded mandate to inspect and report on 51 other severely dilapidated buildings across Karachi.
Speaking at a press conference in Karachi alongside Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar, Ghani said, “The same committee will now also examine the condition of 51 dilapidated buildings in the city and will submit a report in the next 24 hours.”
The minister’s remarks come in the aftermath of the tragic building collapse in Lyari’s Baghdadi area, which left several residents trapped and injured. The incident sparked widespread concern over the safety of aging structures in Karachi, especially in older neighborhoods.
Ghani emphasized the urgency of the situation and said the Sindh government is committed to taking swift action based on the findings of the committee to prevent further tragedies.
“This is a developing story,” he added, indicating that more updates will follow as the investigation progresses.
