ISLAMABAD, Sep 10 (Alliance News): Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong said Tuesday that China and Pakistan will continue to strengthen cooperation within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and jointly advance global peace, stability, and development under the Global Governance Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping.
He made these remarks while briefing the media on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to China, the outcomes of the SCO Tianjin Summit, the Global Governance Initiative, and the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
Ambassador Jiang described the SCO Tianjin Summit, hosted by China, as a gathering of unity, friendship, and practical achievements.
He said the summit, which marked the conclusion of the “China Year” in the SCO, was attended by more than 20 heads of state and government, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and 10 leaders of international organizations, expanding the SCO membership to 27.
He noted that President Xi Jinping participated in nearly 20 bilateral and multilateral events during the summit, building consensus and pushing the SCO into a new stage of high-quality development.
According to Jiang, the summit delivered a wide range of outcomes, including the adoption of a 10-year development strategy, support for the multilateral trading system, establishment of four security centers, plans to set up an SCO development bank, the launch of six cooperation platforms, and preparation of six action plans for high-quality development.
Highlighting China’s contributions, he said President Xi Jinping announced 100 “small and beautiful” livelihood projects in member states, pledged 2 billion yuan in aid this year, 10 billion yuan in loans through the SCO Interbank Consortium over the next three years, and 10,000 training opportunities within the next five years.
“These practical measures fully demonstrate China’s responsibility and commitment to global development, civilizational exchange, and human progress,” he stressed.
The envoy praised Pakistan’s active participation at the summit, noting that President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm commitment to regional cooperation and integration.
He quoted the Prime Minister as saying that “Pakistan will always stand side by side with China in the pursuit of peace, progress, and prosperity.”
On the Global Governance Initiative, Ambassador Jiang explained that it is another important public good proposed by China following the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative.
He said it is guided by five principles: sovereign equality as the prerequisite, international rule of law as the guarantee, multilateralism as the path, a people-centered approach as the orientation, and an action-oriented approach as the principle.
He added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had expressed Pakistan’s full support, describing the initiative as a “historic step toward stronger multilateralism” and pledging that Pakistan would actively implement it.
The ambassador also spoke about the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, saying the commemoration was meant to remember history, honor heroes, cherish peace, and build a better future.
He emphasized that while more than 35 million Chinese people sacrificed their lives during the war, the purpose of remembering history is not to perpetuate hatred but to uphold peace.
“The law of the jungle and winner-takes-all approaches are not the way forward for humanity. Hegemony cannot bring peace,” Jiang said.
Drawing a parallel with global unity against fascism 80 years ago, he urged nations to resist hegemonic practices and work collectively for a brighter future.
He underlined that China’s modernization is rooted in peaceful development and that the country would remain a force for peace, stability, and progress.
“Both China and Pakistan suffered from aggression in history, and both look forward to peace and prosperity for their peoples. We are ready to work with Pakistan to uphold fairness and justice and promote the cause of peace and human progress,” the envoy concluded.
