ISLAMABAD, Jan 30 (Alliance News): President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday congratulated the national cricket team on defeating Australia in the opening T20 International of the three-match series, terming the win a reflection of teamwork, discipline, and determination.
Pakistan beat Australia by 22 runs in the first T20I played on Thursday at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, setting a positive tone for the series.
In separate statements, President Zardari praised the players’ strategy and collective performance, saying the victory projected a positive image of Pakistan in international sports. He also congratulated the Pakistan Cricket Board, particularly Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, on the team’s outstanding showing and expressed hope for further successes in the remaining matches.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded the players’ hard work and dedication, with special appreciation for the bowlers’ decisive role in securing the win. He said defeating a strong team like Australia after a long time clearly demonstrated the team’s commitment and potential.
The prime minister expressed confidence that the national side had the ability to win the entire series if it maintained the same level of focus and teamwork. He also commended PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, the coaching staff, and team management, and extended his best wishes to the players for the upcoming matches.
