Pleasant Weather Forecast as Lahore Finalises Security, Permit Rules for Basant Festival

LAHORE, Jan 31(Alliance News): Pleasant weather is expected during the three-day Basant festival in Lahore as authorities finalised strict safety and regulatory arrangements for the celebrations scheduled from February 6 to 8, marking the festival’s return after more than two decades.

Chief Meteorologist Dr Zaheer Babar said Lahore would experience clear and comfortable weather during Basant, with no chance of rain. He told Aliance News that light clouds and pleasant winds were expected, while night-time temperatures would gradually rise, creating favourable conditions for residents to enjoy the festivities.

Meanwhile, preparations are in full swing across the city, with the district administration completing comprehensive security measures under the supervision of the Lahore deputy commissioner to ensure a safe Basant 2026.

Celebrations will be allowed across the city, including residential areas, housing societies, commercial buildings and rooftops. However, a strict 12-point code of conduct has been enforced, making it mandatory to obtain online permits for rooftop gatherings involving 30 or more people.

The administration will deploy drone cameras and digital surveillance technology to ensure continuous aerial monitoring of rooftops throughout the festival. Detailed procedures have also been issued for obtaining legal permission for large rooftop events, stressing the importance of completing all documentation well in advance.

Applicants are required to upload clear photographs of both sides of their original CNIC, recent images of rooftops, and valid ownership or tenancy documents. These submissions will be verified by assistant commissioners before approval is granted.

The Lahore deputy commissioner urged citizens to ensure the accuracy of their information and documents and advised them to complete the permit process before the start of Basant, warning that strict action would be taken against violations to ensure public safety.
