Speeding Car Crashes Into Religious Gathering in Karachi, 11 Injured

KARACHI, Jun 22 (Alliance News): At least 11 people were injured on Sunday night after a speeding car lost control and crashed into a tent set up for a religious gathering near Saba Avenue in DHA Phase 6, police said.

According to police officials, the vehicle veered off the road, struck several pedestrians, and then crashed into the canopy installed outside an imambargah where a gathering was taking place.

SSP South Mehzor Ali confirmed that the driver of the car and two other individuals were taken into custody shortly after the incident. He said the number of injured people increased during the evening as more victims were shifted to hospitals for medical treatment.

Initial reports had stated that five people were injured, but the figure was later revised to 11 after authorities assessed the full impact of the accident.

CCTV footage of the incident showed the vehicle moving at high speed before losing control. The footage, recorded around 9:26pm, showed the car hitting pedestrians before crashing into the religious gathering area, causing panic among people present at the site.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the accident and sought a detailed report from the Additional Inspector General of Police.

According to the Chief Minister’s House, officials informed the CM that the vehicle’s brakes had reportedly failed, causing the driver to lose control before the crash. The Chief Minister directed authorities to impound the vehicle, ensure the driver’s arrest, and conduct a complete investigation into the incident.

Murad Ali Shah also expressed concern over the injuries and prayed for the speedy recovery of those affected.

Police said investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the accident, with authorities examining whether mechanical failure or negligence by the driver led to the crash.
