Pakistan urges restraint amid renewed US-Iran tensions

ISLAMABAD,(Alliance News): Pakistan on Wednesday urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and uphold the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) following renewed military tensions between the United States and Iran.

In a statement, the Foreign Office (FO) expressed deep concern over the latest escalation, stressing that renewed conflict was in no one’s interest and calling for diplomacy to prevail.

“Pakistan calls on all parties to exercise restraint and refrain from any actions that may further undermine regional peace and stability,” the Foreign Office said.

The FO reaffirmed that there was no alternative to continued engagement, dialogue and diplomacy to achieve the shared objective of lasting peace in the region.

Pakistan also urged all stakeholders to honour the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, signed last month between the United States and Iran, describing the agreement as an important framework for promoting understanding, mutual respect and regional stability.

The statement came after fresh military exchanges between Washington and Tehran following attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns about regional security and global energy supplies.

The Foreign Office reiterated Pakistan’s readiness to continue playing a constructive role in promoting peace and dialogue.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump indicated that the interim agreement with Iran had effectively ended and warned of possible new military action following Iranian strikes on US military facilities in the Gulf.

The renewed hostilities have heightened concerns over security in the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route, with several commercial tankers reportedly changing course to avoid the area.

The latest developments also triggered volatility in global financial markets, with oil prices rising sharply amid fears of supply disruptions.

Iranian state media reported that eight members of the country’s armed forces were killed in recent US strikes targeting military installations in southern Iran.
