Chinese Envoy Lauds Pakistan’s Diplomatic Role, Discusses Regional Peace with PM Shehbaz

ISLAMABAD, Jun 24 (Alliance News): Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong on Tuesday praised Pakistan’s constructive and proactive role at international diplomatic platforms, including the United Nations Security Council, for its efforts to promote peace and stability through dialogue and diplomacy amidst rising tensions in the region.

During his meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad, the two sides held detailed discussions on the evolving regional security situation, particularly the developments stemming from the Iran-Israel conflict.

Bilateral relations and ongoing cooperation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework also featured prominently in the exchange.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conveyed his warm regards and best wishes for Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang.

He extended his sincere hopes for the successful hosting of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in China, and acknowledged the ongoing consultations regarding his scheduled visit to attend the high-level summit later this August.

Reaffirming the enduring “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership” between the two countries, the Prime Minister emphasized Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to further strengthen cooperation with China in all fields.

He reiterated the importance of completing major CPEC projects including the Main Line-1 (ML-I) railway upgrade, realignment of the Karakoram Highway (KKH), and the operationalization of Gwadar Port.

The Prime Minister also stressed expanding bilateral collaboration into emerging sectors such as agriculture, industrial development, and information technology.

He thanked China for its steadfast financial and economic support, which he said had been critical in stabilizing Pakistan’s economy and improving its macroeconomic indicators. He described this support as vital to achieving his government’s broader socio-economic development goals.

Ambassador Jiang Zaidong expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s firm support on issues concerning China’s core interests and acknowledged Islamabad’s valuable diplomatic efforts to encourage de-escalation and peace in the region.

He briefed the Prime Minister on ongoing preparations being undertaken by Beijing to ensure the success of Shehbaz Sharif’s upcoming visit to China, set for late August 2025.

The ambassador reiterated China’s strong commitment to enhancing bilateral ties through deeper engagement in trade, investment, and regional connectivity, highlighting CPEC as a flagship project of mutual prosperity under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
