Ethiopian Envoy, HEC Chairman Discuss Higher Education Cooperation

ISLAMABAD, May 30 ( Alliance News): Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, met with Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, on Friday to explore avenues of bilateral cooperation in higher education, aiming to strengthen academic ties and promote collaborative initiatives between the two nations.

The meeting, held at the HEC Chairman’s Office in Islamabad, focused on multiple potential areas of collaboration, including student and faculty exchange programs, curriculum development for quality assurance, educational digitalization, and joint research projects in fields such as agriculture, science and technology, medicine, engineering, and artificial intelligence.

Ambassador Dr. Jemal emphasized the Ethiopian government’s priority on educational quality and technological advancement, highlighting Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed’s commitment to integrating modern technologies in the education system.

He acknowledged Pakistan’s vast expertise in higher education as a valuable asset for Ethiopia’s human resource development.

He also described education diplomacy as a crucial tool for building sustainable and long-term bilateral relations.

Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed welcomed the initiative and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting Ethiopia’s educational growth.

He outlined recent advancements in Pakistan’s higher education landscape, especially in digital learning and research infrastructure.

Dr. Ahmed assured the Ambassador of HEC’s full support in creating institutional linkages and providing Ethiopian students opportunities to study in Pakistan’s public sector universities.

He also invited senior officials from Ethiopia’s Ministry of Education and top universities to participate in the 6th Vice Chancellors Forum, scheduled from June 23 to 25, 2025, in Rabat, Morocco.
