Peshawar, Aug 18 (Alliance News): The death toll in various accidents during floods and rains across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has risen to 323, according to a report issued by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
The PDMA report confirmed that 323 people have lost their lives and 156 others have been injured in rain and flood-related incidents.
The victims include 273 men, 29 women, and 21 children, while the injured comprise 123 men, 23 women, and 10 children.
The report further stated that 336 houses have been damaged, with 230 partially destroyed and 106 completely collapsed.
The Buner district remains the worst-hit area, where 209 people have died, in addition to fatalities reported from Swat, Bajaur, Torghar, Mansehra, Shangla, and Battagram.
The PDMA has also warned that heavy rains are expected from August 17 to 19, continuing intermittently until August 21. Relief efforts are underway as per the instructions of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
A total of 89 trucks carrying relief items, including tents, mattresses, tarpaulins, mosquito nets, generators, and kitchen sets, have been dispatched to affected districts.
Moreover, the provincial government has released Rs 800 million in relief funds for the affected districts and an additional Rs 500 million for Buner, the most devastated district.
District administrations have been directed to accelerate relief efforts and ensure timely assistance to victims.
The PDMA’s Emergency Operation Center remains fully operational, while the public has been urged to report emergencies and stay updated on weather conditions.
