Govt Resolved to Promote Hockey at Local, International Levels: Ishaq Dar

ISLAMABAD, Jul 9 (Alliance News): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar on Wednesday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing full support for the promotion and revival of hockey at both national and international levels.

Chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad to assess the current state of hockey in Pakistan, Dar underscored the significance of the national sport and emphasized the need for coordinated institutional backing to restore its former glory.

The meeting was attended by the Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), Minister for Information, Secretary IPC, Director General Pakistan Sports Board, President of the Pakistan Hockey Federation, and senior officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Overseas Pakistanis.

Participants acknowledged hockey as the country’s national game and stressed the importance of a comprehensive strategy focused on sustained development, grassroots engagement, and international competitiveness.

The committee agreed to enhance support mechanisms, streamline coordination among relevant institutions, and launch initiatives to groom young talent and re-establish Pakistan’s standing in global hockey.
