ISLAMABAD, July 17 (Alliance News): Parliamentary Secretary for Human Rights, Saba Sadiq, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring prompt and effective justice for victims of gender-based violence, declaring a zero-tolerance policy during a high-level meeting held on Thursday.
Addressing the gathering, Saba Sadiq said that the recent cases involving Sana Yousuf, Eman Afroz, and Sania would be treated as test cases to set a precedent for strict legal consequences.
“We will strengthen the prosecution to ensure that no criminal escapes justice,” she said, emphasizing that the government condemns such violence in the strongest terms.
The meeting was attended by Secretary for Human Rights Abdul Khaliq Sheikh, SP Rural Zone Syed Kazim Naqvi, Prosecutor General Ghulam Sarwar, President of the National Press Club Azhar Jatoi, families of the victims, civil society members, lawyers, and media professionals.
Saba Sadiq acknowledged the swift action taken by Islamabad Police and conveyed the Prime Minister’s clear directive: zero tolerance for crimes against women and girls, with full application of the law.
She further added that the government is working on a coordinated action plan and serving as a bridge between victims and law enforcement agencies. “Justice and societal reform are a shared responsibility, and the state recognizes its role fully,” she remarked.
SP Syed Kazim Naqvi informed the meeting that challans for all three cases had been submitted to the courts and assured that the accused would face due punishment.
Prosecutor General Ghulam Sarwar pointed to the Noor Mukadam case as an example of justice being served, where the Supreme Court upheld the death sentence of Zahir Jaffer.
He stressed that the prosecution department is fully committed to ensuring stringent legal action in all such cases.
Family members of the victims also addressed the meeting, shared emotional accounts of the incidents, and demanded justice and accountability.
